Canon Gains ISO Validation Printing Certification – the First Quality Standard for Digital Printing
REIGATE, April 06, 2009 – Canon UK, world leader in digital imaging solutions, today announced its market leading imagePRESS printers have been awarded with ISO/CD certification for Validation Printing, establishing a global image quality standard for toner based presses.
The ISO/CD 12647–7 Validation Printing Certification awarded for the Canon imagePRESS range
The first output test for toner based systems proves the repeatability and quality of Canon’s digital prints
Canon worked closely with the Fogra institute to achieve the Validation Printing Certification
The ISO/CD 12647-7 Validation Printing Certification is the first to offer repeatability tests for image quality on toner systems over a set time period to ensure colour consistency is accurately maintained. The Certification was awarded to the Canon imagePRESS range after rigorous testing, providing print providers and their customers with the security and peace of mind from the combination of Canon’s market-leading products and a benchmark quality standard.
The International Organisation for Standardisation is the world’s largest developer and publisher of the ISO International Standards, comprising a network of national institutes in 160 countries to form a bridge between public and private sectors and meet the needs of business and of society in general.
Canon worked with the Fogra institute in Germany to achieve conformance with the ISO standard for the Canon imagePRESS C1+, the imagePRESS C6000 and the imagePRESS C7000VP, including the server and i1 Process Control colour management tool on semi-matt and gloss media.
Trevor Dodsworth, Head of Professional Print Marketing, Canon UK said: “Whilst customers appreciate the high-quality achieved from digital printing, they were still demanding a proofing standard from their print providers. The new ISO/CD 12647–7 gives us, for the first time, a recognisable Validation proof that allows print providers to achieve the highest possible results on the Canon imagePRESS range.
“Over the next few months we will be working towards establishing a European infrastructure to support and extend the knowledge to our customers. We can provide a complete package of professional services and support so customers can achieve the ISO/CD 12647–7 conformance for themselves and train their operators to maintain that standard in the future or we can use Canon engineers to ensure their presses are constantly maintained to the top level of performance.”
The new Validation certification will provide print providers with a competitive quality advantage, giving customers near contract quality print proofs and allowing them to measure digital prints against litho offset printing quality. Canon’s imagePRESS range is synonymous with quality output and the standard can now offer its customers a certified, reliable and a stable system to give them the peace of mind to achieve colour critical proofing.
Andreas Kraushaar (MSc), Head of Prepress Department at Fogra, said: “We are delighted to have worked with Canon as one of the first manufacturers to test conformance according to ISO/CD 12647-7 Validation Printing System. To reach this standard is not easy and involves a considerable degree of investment from the print manufacturer and we have seen many systems fail. For Canon to achieve this across all of its imagePRESS range is a very signific
