The Olympus E-620: All our knowledge in one
A compact D-SLR that inspires the imagination

The Olympus E-620: All our knowledge in one

London, 24 February 2009 – The world’s smallest and lightest creative D-SLR with built-in image stabilisation has finally arrived! The new Olympus E-620 combines the technical sophistication required by pros with easy-to-use functions desired by hobbyists. As a result, ambitious photographers everywhere can now take creativity to a whole new level. Outfitted with a custom 7-point Twin autofocus system, the E-620 provides consistent focus, as well as a generous 12.3 Megapixel High-Speed Live MOS. Additionally, the Live View technology as well as the 6.9cm/2.7” free-angle HyperCrystal III LCD make framing every shot a cinch. In-camera Art Filters entice users to be artistic by allowing them to apply stylish effects at the touch of a button. Indeed, the E-620 is everything that makes Olympus Four Thirds Standard D-SLR cameras great. The latest addition to the E-System range offers creative and technological power – all rolled into one. The new model will be available for purchase at the end of April 2009.

A license for creativity
Designed to stimulate creativity, the E-620 brings out the artist in anyone. This D-SLR comes packed with features that will give a different look to the shot that’s being captured, all without the need for a computer or special software. Effects can even be viewed in real time. Familiar from the E-30, the Art Filters enable a selection from one of six exciting themes. With this function, photos can for example be given striking colours in order to create a more intense, joyful feel by applying the Pop Art filter. This confers images a completely new artistic flair. Other fantastic effects include Pin Hole, Soft Focus, Pale & Light Colour, Light Tone and Grainy Film. On top of that, there’s the option to utilise the Live View display to overlay two images in shooting mode, or even three stored RAW images in editing mode, in order to create amazing new Multi Exposure masterpieces, all in real time. Plus, users can always frame their shot in a way that suits their fancy. All they have to do is choose between four different aspect ratios: 4:3 (standard), 3:2 (35mm equivalent), 6:6 (medium-format) or 16:9 (cinematic).

The E-620’s elegant body promotes creativity as much as the state-of-the-art technology packed inside. Guaranteeing pictures are a success no matter what the conditions or how far the subject is, built-in image stabilisation corrects camera shake up to four EV steps, assuring steadiness and making tripods unnecessary in most instances. Then there’s the free-angle 6.9cm/2.7” HyperCrystal III LCD with 176° viewing angle, which means shots can be taken from almost any perspective. This way, you can even capture a field of daisies from a bee’s point of view! Working in terrific harmony with the camera’s contrast AF* capabilities, the Live View functionality allows you to comfortably judge results even before they are shot: what you see is what you get. Perfect light is a guarantee with the ability to use up to three separate, camera controlled, Wireless Flash groups – an option first introduced with the E-3. And with the attachable HLD-5 Power Grip, taking vertical photos becomes a breeze while the extra battery performance enables shooting for longer hours. With such an impressive array of functions, the potential of the E-620 can be stretched as far as the photographer’s imagination.

A camera with the works
A camera that inspires creativity needs to be extraordinarily functional as well, and the E-620 doesn’t disappoint. One of the D-SLR’s most exciting facets is the new 7-point Twin AF which features seven distance-measuring points, five of which are cross-points. This Olympus autofocus technology was developed for the professional E-3 after the comprehensive analysis of thousands of photographs and interviews with professional photographers. It has now been tailored to hobbyist needs: the five cross-points work by using horizontal and vertical sensor lines to supply data that determines the ideal focal points of each shot. This ensures every snap of the shutter produces blur-free results. In addition, the AF was specifically designed to work easily and rapidly with Supersonic Wave Drive (SWD) lenses. With the E-620, being out of focus becomes a thing of the past.

Aside from the amazing AF, the E-620 also packs the one-two punch of a 12.3 Megapixel high-speed Live MOS sensor and the latest-generation TruePic III+ processor so that every picture is as clear as the real thing – even when shot at a blazing fast 4fps. If users aren’t taking advantage of the LCD to do their framing, they can employ the exceptional viewfinder which magnifies up to 0.96x and provides 95% viewing coverage. An Auto White Balance also helps reproduce vivid and true to life colours.

Goes where you go, does what you want it to do
One of the advantages of Four Thirds technology is perfectly incorporated into the E-620: it is so compact and light that it can be taken anywhere. And thanks to a design that provides a handy ergonomic grip, this model always feels comfortable to hold. It’s also equipped with Olympus’ exclusive Supersonic Wave Filter dust protection system – the most effective dust protection system on the market. In addition, the camera’s buttons illuminate to provide valuable aid when shooting at night.

The Olympus E-620 can be enjoyed with nearly all E-System accessories, such as 33 lenses and different flash systems. New robust Olympus Flash Brackets, like the FL-BK04, ensure maximum flexibility and good light in any situation where a flash may be needed. And two flashes are also not a problem with the practical FL-BKM03 Flash Bracket, on which any standard flash or the twin flash set STF-22 can be mounted. As for those who like to take a dive, Olympus’ new PT-E06 Underwater Case has you covered to depths of up to 40m.

Boasting all of Olympus’ technological know-how, this camera delivers everything creative types want in a digital SLR. It offers the ultimate in E-System features such as the Supersonic Wave Filter and Live View as well as artistic options like Art Filters in one innovative package. Look for the new E-620 in stores as of the end of April 2009.

The Olympus SP-590UZ: The world’s leading ultra-zoom

26x zoom and ultimate versatility

The Olympus SP-590UZ: The world’s leading ultra-zoom

London, 7 January 2009 – With a world’s first 26x optical zoom lens that covers a remarkable 26-676mm* focal length range, 10fps sequential shooting, and a 12 Megapixel CCD, nothing can escape the scrutiny of the Olympus SP-590UZ. Whether taking wide-angle photos of rolling landscapes, or zooming into capture action on the sports field, photographers using the SP-590UZ have a distinct advantage. Not only do they have an ultra-powerful ultra zoom at their fingertips, but as Dual Image Stabilisation protects photos from blur caused by camera shake, they know that when they view their results on the camera’s 6.9cm/2.7” HyperCrystal II LCD, they will be picture perfect. The SP-590UZ gives users the choice of manual control and full automatic shooting, and will be in shops from March 2009 retailing for around £360.

If you are out trekking across the moors, on Safari or photographing family groups at a wedding, the last thing you want is to be weighed down with a hefty bag of camera lenses. With the SP-590UZ photographers have everything they need built into one neat unit. That’s the freedom to take a wide-angle shot at 26mm* and then zoom in to 676mm* super telephoto for a stunning close up; and with up to 10 frames per second sequential shooting, every split-second of the action can be captured.

Photographers after an easy life can choose either fully automatic shooting, or opt for one of the SP-590UZ’s 18 shooting modes. And those requiring more control can go for full Manual, Aperture Priority, or Shutter Priority, confident that Dual Image Stabilisation will prevent blur caused by camera shake and Shadow Adjustment Technology will bring out shadow details that would otherwise be lost. Creative photographers can even superimpose one image on top of another using the Multiple Exposure setting.

It’s not only photographers who will be delighted with the SP-590UZ, people love having their picture taken by it too. Advanced Face Detection Technology can automatically identify up to 16 human subjects in a photo and set the exposure and focus accordingly. And, even better than that, Beauty Mode can actually touch up the appearance of subjects as the photo is being taken, making their skin appear smoother, brighter and more youthful!

The new Olympus SP-590UZ is compatibility with both xD-Picture Card and microSD Card*** and will go on sale from March 2009.

The Olympus FE-5000, FE-3000, and FE-35: user-friendly and loaded with features

Great shots at an affordable price with the FE series

The Olympus FE-5000, FE-3000, and FE-35

London, 7 January 2009 – The new additions to the FE line-up might not cost the earth, but they certainly look a million dollars! Designed with Olympus’ ‘One button, one function’ design principle in mind, the FE-5000, FE-3000, and FE-35 combine good looks and user-friendliness with great new features such as Advanced Face Detection Technology, and Intelligent Auto Mode, which analyses the photo being taken and automatically selects which of the five most commonly-used scenes it matches. The new FE’s are ideal for people shopping on a budget who won’t compromise on quality. Whatever they are after – whether that’s a 5x optical zoom, 12 Megapixel CCD, or Dual Image Stabilisation – there’s bound to be a model to suit. Each of the new cameras is available in a choice of colours. The FE-5000 and FE-35 will become available in late January, and the FE-3000 in early February 2009. The estimated retail prices are around £150 (FE-5000), £130 (FE-3000) and £100 (FE-35).

FE-5000
At the heart of the 10 Megapixel FE-5000 is a compact 5x optical zoom (36-180mm*) that’s great for taking group photos and landscapes as well as zooming in on the action. Some people can find it difficult to hold zoom lenses steady and this can lead to pictures being blurred by ‘camera shake’. Luckily the designers of the FE-5000 have this covered. Dual Image Stabilisation attacks the problem on two fronts: First, it uses high ISO settings to ensure faster shutter speeds. Second, tiny gyro sensors inside the FE-5000 detect inadvertent camera movement and adjust the position of its CCD to compensate.

Other features that safeguard image quality include Advanced Face Detection Technology, which can detect up to 16 faces in a photo and set the focusing and exposure with them in mind, and Intelligent Auto Mode which automatically recognises which of the five most commonly-used scenes the photo being taken matches. The FE-5000 can even tell when subjects are smiling using its Smile Shot feature, and take the picture at just the right moment. Composing and reviewing photos is also a breeze on the large 6.9cm/2.7” LCD, and Perfect Fix can even be used to correct minor faults in photos after the shot has been taken. The metal-bodied FE-5000 is available in black or gold.

FE-3000
Of all of the FE models, the new FE-3000 has the highest resolution – an impressive 12 Megapixels, that’s more than enough to guarantee perfect poster sized prints. The tiny metal FE-3000 is available in gold, magenta or black and can be slipped into a pocket or handbag, ready for use at a moment’s notice. But just because it is tiny, don’t assume that the FE-3000 is small on features. Packed inside its jewel like body are a 3x optical zoom (36-108mm*), Intelligent Auto Mode and Advanced Face Detection Technology, as well as Digital Image Stabilisation to reduce blur caused by ‘camera shake’. And when the time comes to review photos and movies, the FE-3000 makes it easy with a 6.9cm/2.7” LCD.

FE-35
Anyone on the lookout for a versatile, no nonsense digital camera could do a lot worse than consider the new FE-35. This model combines 10 Megapixels with a 3x optical zoom (36-108mm*) for great quality point-and-shoot photography. It’s even powered by easily-available, standard AA batteries, so they’ll never be caught stranded in need of power. Once again, features more usually associated with expensive cameras have been included without inflating the FE-35’s modest price tag. These include the Intelligent Auto Mode and Advanced Face Detection Technology that make it easy to get the perfect shot the first time, in just about any situation. And with Digital Image Stabilisation, the camera boosts image sensor sensitivity to reduce ‘camera shake’. The FE-35 is available in elegant shades of gold, black or deep blue.

With all three new cameras, photos can be stored on xD-Picture Cards, microSD Cards**, or on an internal memory. The FE-5000 and FE-35 will become available in late January, and the FE-3000 in early March 2009.

Tough by name, tough by nature

Tough by name, tough by nature

The Olympus µ TOUGH-8000 & µ TOUGH-6000

London, 7 January 2009 – Olympus’ unique range of waterproof, shockproof and freezeproof TOUGH cameras has grown with the addition of the 12 Megapixel µ TOUGH-8000 and the 10 Megapixel µ TOUGH-6000. Both models feature 3.6x wide zoom lenses, starting a 28mm* great for taking awesome wide-angle photos of rugged terrain and for zooming in on the distant bits that you can’t get to! Blur caused by camera shake is virtually eradicated on the two new TOUGHS, thanks to Dual Image Stabilisation. Olympus are especially proud to have achieved this feat since the Tough range have floating CCD’s which enable them to be drop proof but which makes mechanical stabilisation a real challenge! Both cameras feature TAP Control so they can be operated by simply tapping on their casings – very handy if you’re wearing ski gloves. The µ TOUGH-8000 and µ TOUGH-6000 let you take extremely good photos in extreme conditions, and enjoy the experience. They will be available mid-January and early February respectively and retail for around £290 and £350.

The new top-of-the-range µ TOUGH-8000, is hard as nails and perfect for those who want to push things to their limits. It’s waterproof to 10m***, shockproof to falls from up to 2m**, freezeproof down to temperatures as low as -10°C and crushproof to weights of up to 100kg****. Fellow newcomer, the µ TOUGH-6000 is no wimp either. As well as being freezeproof, this model is waterproof to 3m*** and impervious to drops from up to 1.5m**.

Both models inherit the versatile 3.6x wide optical zoom first seen on the EISA Award winning Olympus µ 1030 SW. Starting at 28mm* wide-angle, fantastic for landscapes and architectural photos, this lens zooms up to a useful 102mm*, which is ideal for concentrating on more distant subjects. And Dual Image Stabilisation significantly reduces image blur caused by camera shake, even when the µ TOUGH-8000 and µ TOUGH-6000 are being used in challenging situations, such as being buffeted by the waves.

Being tough doesn’t mean that the new models aren’t sensitive. The µ TOUGH-8000 and µ TOUGH-6000 are packed with features that make beautiful photos a cert. And, with 12 and 10 Megapixels resolution respectively, results can be enlarged as big as you wish. Capable of recognising up to 3 faces, the µ TOUGH-8000’s Face Detection Technology guarantees that human subjects are always perfectly focused and exposed. The µ TOUGH-6000, which boasts Advanced Face Detection Technology, goes one better and can detect up to 16 faces. It also has a handy Smile Shot feature which automatically takes the picture as soon as the subject smiles and, for even happier results, Beauty Mode can retouch their skin as the shot is being taken, removing lines and wrinkles for a smooth glowing complexion.

To further improve picture quality Shadow Adjustment Technology has been included to boost shadow detail that would otherwise be lost. And for the ultimate in photography convenience, Intelligent Auto Mode analyses the image being photographed and matches it to one of five commonly-used scene modes, automatically selecting the best choice.

As an alternative to the intuitive on-screen menus displayed on their 6.9cm/2.7” HyperCrystal III LCD screens, the µ TOUGH-8000 and µ TOUGH-6000 also feature Tap Control. This allows fast access to a range of settings simply by tapping the camera body – even when wearing gloves, such as when skiiing.

The µ TOUGH-8000 and µ TOUGH-6000 are waterproof, shockproof and freezeproof, and available in a range of great colours – so picking the right one might prove tough too! Expect to see them in UK stores in mid-January and early February 2009 respectively.

New faces in the classic μ family

The Olympus µ-9000, µ-7000 and µ-5000 redefine high-performance elegance

London, 7 January 2009 – The popular Olympus µ series has once again raised the bar for combining sumptuous design with powerful opto-digital technology. Featuring optical zooms ranging from 5x in the µ-5000, 7x in the µ-7000, to a phenomenal 10x in the µ-9000, this latest generation of the legendary Olympus µ series continues the story of superior optics and ultra-slim bodied chic. Epitomising the Olympus “miniaturised optics, maximised brilliance” philosophy, these state-of-the-art 12 Megapixel cameras each include Dual Image Stabilisation, Shadow Adjustment Technology and Face Detection Technology in their impressive treasure trove of high-tech capabilities. Boasting sleek metal bodies in a range of attractive colours, the Olympus µ-5000 will be available at the end of January 2009, while the µ-9000 and µ-7000 hit stores in mid February 2009.

µ-9000
With its striking 10x wide optical zoom (28-280mm*), the extra-slim
12 Megapixel µ-9000 wields its high-performance lens to get right up close to distant subjects – or to pan out for magnificent wide-angle shots. The 6.9cm/2.7” HyperCrystal III LCD displays stunningly clear images even in bright sunlight, and its wide viewing angles make framing convenient from almost any perspective. Like each of the latest cameras in the “classic”
µ series, this model also includes Dual Image Stabilisation which reduces blur by using a mechanical image stabiliser and high ISO values. The sleek, metal-bodied µ-9000 is available in stylish Midnight Black and Royal Blue variations.

µ-7000
The 12 Megapixel µ-7000 incorporates a versatile 7x optical zoom (37-260mm*) and a big 7.6cm/3.0” HyperCrystal II LCD to facilitate ultra-convenient framing and viewing. This elegant model also features a clever Smile Shot function which ensures that those being photographed are at their smiling best – because the camera doesn’t trip the shutter until the pearly whites have been flashed. The µ-7000 comes in three attractive colours: Starry Silver, Midnight Black and Ocean Blue.

µ-5000
With its 5x optical zoom (36-180mm*) and 12 Megapixels, the µ-5000 is the perfect choice for flexible, high-performance photography. As with all the new classic µ cameras, this stylish camera has Perfect Shot Preview on board. This enables changes to various settings to be viewed and compared with one another in a multi-frame window on the 6.9cm/2.7” HyperCrystal II LCD before shooting. A further handy function is Perfect Fix: it lets red-eyes and shadowy areas be removed from photos, directly in the camera. The ultra-slim µ 5000 is available in a choice of Metal Magenta, Atlantic Blue or Midnight Black models.

Additional common features
The slick and stylish µ-9000, µ-7000 and µ-5000 are a dream come true for sophisticated photographers looking to match cutting-edge style with superior substance.

Handling and navigation is easy due to illuminated buttons for low-light conditions. In addition, an all-new Beauty Mode smoothes out imperfections from the final image for a flawless-looking complexion, and the innovative Intelligent Auto Mode automatically identifies five commonly-encountered types of scenes and adjusts settings accordingly. An In-Camera Panorama mode is also included for particularly expansive or creative shots. The three new members of the classic µ series each come with 39 languages on board and are xD-Picture Card and microSD compatible.

The Olympus µ-5000 will be on sale from the end of January 2009, while the µ-9000 and µ-7000 will become available in mid February 2009.

Die Olympus E-620: Das Beste aus dem E-System in einer Kamera

Eine kompakte D-SLR für inspirierende Fotos

Die Olympus E-620: Das Beste aus dem E-System in einer Kamera

Hamburg, 24.
