ALPINE ELECTRONICS ANNOUNCES NEW PRICING FOR PND-K3 PORTABLE NAVIGATION DEVICE WITH BLUETOOTH

TORRANCE, Calif., Feb. 25, 2009 – The market for portable navigation devices (PND) is more competitive than ever. In response to market changes, Alpine Electronics of America, Inc., the industry-leading manufacturer of automotive mobile media solutions, today announced a price reduction for its top-rated PND-K3 all-in-one portable navigation plus Bluetooth® hands-free system to $199.95 at participating authorized retailers in the U.S.

“When we first introduced the PND-K3, the pricing was competitive for the market and for the device’s robust feature offering. As the marketplace has changed in the last few months, we are adjusting the price to meet consumer demand for a full-featured product at a better value,” said Stephen Witt, vice president, marketing.

The PND-K3 offers consumers some of the best navigation technology on the road. To better maintain a moving car’s location on the map even in areas where it’s difficult to receive GPS signals, such as in a tunnel, around tall buildings or under heavy foliage, the PND-K3’s OnPoint™ Advanced GPS Positioning provides optimal vehicle tracking. OnPoint simultaneously uses three technologies – satellite-linked global positioning data, solid-state gyro sensor technology (to measure the vehicle’s direction) and accelerometer technology (to measure the vehicle’s speed). The result is highly accurate, continuous vehicle positioning in almost any location, for advanced navigation performance.

The PND-K3 also features:
Built-in Bluetooth for convenient hands-free phone calls when connected to compatible Bluetooth-enabled mobile devices
Total touch screen control via a large, sunlight-readable 4.3-inch display that ensures clear visibility in any lighting condition
Simple and intuitive graphical user interface (GUI) with big, bright icons, large buttons and easy-to-understand screen graphics
Natural-sounding voice text-to-speech announcements that deliver turn-by-turn driving instructions, street and highway exit names
New assistive mapping visuals that offer essential driving information, such as Highway Junction View (which distinctly indicates the correct lane to use at a junction split) and One-Way Street Icons for clear notification of one-way streets
6 million points of interest (POIs), which include restaurants, hotels, gas stations, movie theaters and grocery stores
Preloaded NAVTEQ® maps of the United States and Canada, including Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands
Built-in SD card slot that enables playback of WMA/MP3 music files
Customizable map and menu color schemes with eight different color options, enabling drivers to personalize the look of their PND-K3 to match their vehicle’s instrumentation lighting

The PND-K3 includes a compact cradle to conveniently attach the device to the windshield or dashboard. The cradle uses a ball-and-joint socket, allowing the driver to easily and precisely position the device for the best viewing angle. The PND-K3’s built-in loudspeaker allows voice instructions, music and incoming Bluetooth calls to be heard loud and clear.

ALPINE’S 7909 NABS ‘BEST EVER’ CD RECEIVER AWARD

Mobile Electronics Magazine Bestows Honor Voted by Industry Members

TORRANCE, Calif., Feb. 10, 2009 – Alpine Electronics of America, Inc., the industry-leading manufacturer of automotive mobile media solutions, has been honored with the award for “Best Ever” CD receiver by Mobile Electronics magazine. The online poll of the mobile electronics industry was conducted during the fall of 2008 and Mobile Electronics recently presented the award to Alpine.

In 1989, Alpine introduced the 7909 (with an SRI of $1,200) as the company’s flagship AM/FM CD receiver, targeted to audiophile consumers and auto sound competitors. The 7909 was best known for its incredible sound quality at a time when the CD format was gaining major popularity in the car. It used a dual Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC) architecture designed to outperform other single DAC-based CD receivers. The 7909’s 18 bit, 18x oversampling technology used with a 1 bit DAC delivered the best possible sound reproduction for CDs. The unit also featured CD Straight, which allowed the audio signal to bypass the bass, treble, balance and fader controls for the purest sound reproduction in the automotive aftermarket. Its 4-volt preamp outputs helped to further reduce noise.

The 7909’s performance made it a favorite among consumers and a popular source unit for International Auto Sound Challenge Association (IASCA) competitions. In 1998, Alpine re-introduced the 7909 Anniversary Edition, tied-in to the company’s 20th anniversary in North America. Acknowledging the changes in consumer use, the Anniversary Edition did not have the Quick Release Bracket (QRB) pull-out chassis design that was found on the original 7909. Today, the 7909 still enjoys a strong cult following among car audio enthusiasts.

“Alpine has always held exceptional sound quality as one of our key tenets, and the 7909 set this foundation for Alpine’s Engineering Team. This knowledge ultimately influenced Alpine’s product design principles, resulting in its strong reputation for sound quality,” said Stephen Witt, vice president, marketing, Alpine Electronics.

ALPINE ELECTRONICS CELEBRATES 30TH YEAR IN U.S. AT CES; FOCUSES INITIATIVES ON CONNECTING WITH CONSUMERS

New System-Selling Approach and Retail-Merchandising Highlighted for 2009

TORRANCE, Calif., Jan. 8, 2009 – Alpine Electronics of America, Inc., the industry-leading manufacturer of automotive mobile media solutions, is ringing in 2009 with the company’s 30th year in the U.S. While continuing to deliver premium-quality audio, video and navigation products, Alpine is launching an aggressive new sales strategy and marketing plan. This new initiative is designed to help dealers more effectively connect with consumers by putting a stronger focus on providing system solutions that meet researched needs.

As Alpine rolls out its product line up for 2009, the company will help consumers create customized systems that fit their lifestyles by offering Alpine dealers the tools to provide a better retail experience. These dealer tools will include Alpine-designed retail display options, a retail experience guide and point-of-sale materials. The dealer support strategy will be reflected in the Alpine booth, which is in the Las Vegas Convention Center, North Hall, meeting room N101. The booth will utilize the actual retail displays that will be available for dealers and also will include a mock retail store.

“With the economic challenges facing everyone right now, Alpine must provide our dealers not only with great new product, but also with the business strategy and tools to deliver the best customer experience at retail. This fresh approach to retail will result in creating the best system to meet the customer’s needs, lifestyle and budget,” said Stephen Witt, vice president, marketing, Alpine Electronics.

This merchandising strategy will focus on a “systems solution” approach. Consumers generally know their desired end result, but may not know how to get there and what products are needed to work together to build it. By showcasing products in a system configuration format, consumers become more educated about the components needed to achieve the results they want, and it helps the salesperson maximize the sale based on consumer desires. There will be two demo cars in the Alpine booth, both equipped with actual, suggested systems that fit a certain lifestyle and budget. A Mercedes Benz E350 will showcase a system that is built around keeping the factory radio functions and cosmetics. This system consists of the PXE-H650 System Integration Audio Processor, a PDX-5 five-channel amplifier, two pairs of SPX-17REF Type X Reference Component Speakers, and one SWR-1222D Type R 12-inch subwoofer and will be available for $1,900 at participating authorized Alpine retailers in the U.S. At this point, a dealer who replicates this system for a customer is now able to add on other sources – such as iPod® or iPhone® playback, Bluetooth® hands-free calling, or satellite radio – as desired by the customer. This solution helps dealers work in conjunction with – rather than be locked out of – today’s newer factory systems.

The second car in the Alpine booth is a Scion xD. This car will be displayed in the mock store as an example of a practical system that sounds good loud, with easy upgrades that provide clear highs and hard-hitting bass. The Scion xD’s system consists of a CDE-102 CD receiver, MRP-M500 Mono Amplifier, KTP-445 Head Unit Power Pack, one SPS-600C 6.5-inch Component Two-way Speaker Set, one SPS-500 5.25-inch Coaxial Two-way Speaker Set, and one SWS-1043D 10-inch Subwoofer. As well, the CDE-102 can play songs from a USB memory stick or MP3 player right from the faceplate, meeting the needs of the customer who wants to play digital music in their car but is on a tight budget. This actual system will be available for $800 at participating Alpine authorized retailers in the U.S.

ALPINE ELECTRONICS’ LATEST PORTABLE NAVIGATION UNITS DELIVER HIGH-QUALITY PERFORMANCE, VALUE FOR DRIVERS

MSN Direct Model Adds Traffic, Weather and Gas Price Information

TORRANCE, Calif., Jan. 8, 2009 – Alpine Electronics of America, Inc., the industry-leading manufacturer of automotive mobile media solutions, now offers two portable navigation systems to help drivers navigate the roads with ease and confidence. As Alpine’s third generation of portable navigation devices, the units combine OnPoint™ vehicle positioning technology with useful features that make the driving experience more enjoyable, such as Bluetooth® hands-free calling, natural voice text-to-speech and simple, easy-to-use touch-screen control.

Alpine’s PND-K3 portable navigation device is joined this year by the new PND-K3msn. The PND-K3msn shares all the features of the PND-K3, with the addition of MSN Direct® content and services. To get customers started, the PND-K3msn comes with a free, three-month subscription to MSN Direct. With the PND-K3msn, consumers can receive updated traffic information, weather reports, gas prices, movie times, news and alerts, local event information and stock prices (some services available only in select cities where coverage exists). The PND-K3msn also has MSN Direct’s “Send to GPS” feature. This convenient tool allows users to wirelessly send addresses, business listings or other locations directly from a Web site to the PND-K3msn, saving them time in re-entering or searching for the same location again on the PND-K3msn.

“The PND-K3 adds more value for drivers than other portable devices in the category. With the PND-K3msn, consumers now have more options for getting the information they need to get to their chosen destinations quickly and accurately,” said Stephen Witt, vice president, marketing, Alpine Electronics. “We have already earned top industry ratings for the PND-K3’s performance. With the new MSN Direct service, consumers will have an even more robust experience.”

“We are glad to provide MSN Direct to the PND-K3msn,” said Joe Coco, product unit manager of the MSN Direct initiative at Microsoft. “The information supplied by MSN Direct, combined with the PND-K3msn’s interface, will give drivers a more helpful and enhanced driving experience.” The ability to lock in and maintain a moving car’s location on the map is a big challenge for many portable navigation devices. The PND-K3 and PND-K3msn feature OnPoint Advanced GPS Positioning for optimal vehicle tracking, to better maintain a moving car’s location on the map even in areas where it’s difficult to receive GPS signals, such as in a tunnel, around tall buildings or under heavy foliage.

The PND-K3 and PND-K3msn are fully loaded with everything a consumer needs for an easy, stress-free drive, including:
Total touch screen control via a large, bright (500 NITS) 4.3-inch display that ensures clear visibility in any lighting condition
Simple and intuitive graphical user interface (GUI) with big, bright icons, large buttons, easy-to-understand screen graphics and an easy way to input addresses and destinations
Natural-sounding voice text-to-speech announcements that deliver turn-by-turn driving instructions, street and highway exit names
Assistive mapping visuals that offer essential driving information, such as Highway Junction View (which indicates the correct side to use at a junction split) and One-Way Street Icons for clear notification of one-way streets
6 million unique Points of Interest (POIs), which include restaurants, hotels, gas stations, movie theaters and grocery stores
Preloaded NAVTEQ® maps of the United States and Canada, including Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands
Built-in Bluetooth powered by Parrot, for convenient hands-free phone calls when connected to compatible Bluetooth-enabled mobile devices
Built-in SD card slot that enables playback of WMA/MP3 music files
Customizable map and menu color schemes with eight different color options, enabling drivers to personalize the look of their Alpine portable navigation device to match their vehicle’s instrumentation lighting or mood

A new and useful feature on the PND-K3 and PND-K3msn is the “POI Search Along Route,” which not only allows drivers to look for places nearby, but also offers a more focused search for places that are on the way to their destination. Unlike other GPS units, the PND-K3 and PND-K3msn will not direct the driver to a POI that happens to be close but has already passed, or is out of the way from the original, optimal driving route.

The slim design of the PND-K3 and PND-K3msn makes it easy to attach the unit to the windshield or dashboard. The cradle uses a ball-and-joint socket, allowing the driver to easily and precisely adjust the device for the best viewing angle. The unit’s built-in loudspeaker allows voice instructions, music and incoming Bluetooth calls to be heard loud and clear. The unit also offers the opportunity to interface to a vehicle’s car audio system, automatically announcing voice-guided driving instructions and incoming phone calls over the vehicle’s speakers.

Pricing and Availability
The PND-K3 Portable Navigation System is available now for $349.95 at participating authorized Alpine dealers in the U.S. The PND-K3msn Portable Navigation System with MSN Direct connection will be available in February for $500 SRI at authorized Alpine dealers.

GET LOUD ON THE WATER: ALPINE BOLSTERS MARINE SOUND SYSTEM OFFERINGS

New Amplifier and Speakers Give Boaters More Reasons to Upgrade

TORRANCE, Calif., Jan. 8, 2009 – Boating season is just a few months away, so it’s time for improvements and upgrades to make this year’s moments on the water more memorable than before. Alpine Electronics of America, Inc., the industry-leading manufacturer of automotive mobile media solutions, today announced two new high-performance, rugged marine products that give boaters the ultimate flexibility to build the perfect custom sound system.

Alpine offers a complete line up of marine sound system solutions, which now includes: two head units (iDA-X100M and CDA-9886M); three digital amplifiers (new PDX-5M, PDX-1.600M and PDX-4.100M); three speaker sets (new SPR-M70 7-inch component, SPR-M700 7-inch coaxial and SPS-M600 6.5-inch coaxial); a subwoofer (SWR-M100); and multiple wireless remote controls/commanders (MC10 wireless commander system, MC1 add-on remote commander, RUE-M1RF and RUE-M1EX remote controls).

Every Alpine marine product is specifically engineered for the harsh marine environment and is designed to work together for maximum performance and durability. They are marine certified and can withstand abuse from water, salt and sun. All Alpine marine products go through American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) tests for ASTM B117 salt spray/fog, as well as ASTM G154/D4329 UV resistance.

The full line up of marine products allows boaters to design a sound system that fits their needs and budget. A simple system upgrade could consist of a head unit, remote control and two pairs of speakers. In contrast, a complex system consisting of a head unit, remote control kit, three amplifiers, two subwoofers and four pairs of speakers ensures that the party’s on the water.

New Marine Digital Amplifier and Speakers
Alpine adds a powerful 5-channel digital PDX amplifier to its current line up of marine amplifiers. The new PDX-5M amplifier, as with all Alpine PDX amplifiers, combines a small, uniform and stackable design with superb fidelity and maximized output power control. As a 5-channel amplifier, the PDX-5M enables sound quality enthusiasts to build a complete sound system powered by just one PDX amplifier. It delivers 75 watts to each full-range channel and 300 watts to the subwoofer for loud, dynamic sound on the open water. With extremely high efficiency at all power levels, the PDX-5M puts less strain on the boat’s electrical system while still providing lots of precise, powerful sound.

Joining Alpine’s existing marine speaker line are the new SPR-M70 7-inch component speakers. The easy-to-install SPR-M70 sports an efficient titanium dome tweeter and 7-inch woofer for clear, loud sound output in open-air environments. It comes ready with two grille styles, “Classic” and “Sport,” to cosmetically integrate into a wide variety of boat interiors, and is constructed of UV-treated Centrex® 813 for hard-wearing durability and UV protection against yellowing. In addition, the crossover is housed inside the woofer frame for durability and easy installation.

Marine Head Units, Commanders and Remote Controls
Alpine’s two marine head units are the iDA-X100M and the CDA-9886M. Both units offer superior playback of iPod® and satellite radio, which are two easy and popular music sources for boaters. The iDA-X100M Digital Media Receiver delivers a fully integrated iPod and satellite radio experience and is based on Alpine’s award-winning in-vehicle iPod interface. The 2.2-inch full color TFT screen displays artist, album details, track information and album art (if available) from the iPod. The unit’s Alphabet Search, Percentage Search and Quick Search features make it easy to quickly navigate through large iPod music libraries. The intuitive user interface makes it simple to quickly search satellite radio channels as well.

The CDA-9886M is a robust CD-R/-RW/MP3/AAC/WMA head unit with simplified, fast iPod connectivity and file navigation via the included KCE-422i Full Speed Connection™ for iPod cable and the Percentage Search function. This head unit, along with the iDA-X100M, can connect to various digital media sources and formats, including HD Radio™, satellite radio, Bluetooth® connectivity for hands-free calling, USB mass storage devices and CD changers. (Separate adapters and/or subscriptions required.)

Alpine’s MC10 Wireless Marine Commander Kit consists of one RF transceiver and an MC1 wireless remote commander. The MC1 has volume and sub level controls and a back-lit, full dot matrix display that shows metadata (such as album, artist and song information). The MC10 system can control the iDA-X100M and CDA-9886M head units as well as any additional sources such as iPod, HD Radio and satellite radio (additional sources and subscription fees required, sold separately). Additional MC1 remotes (sold separately) can be added to an existing system and installed in various places for flexible sound system control from anywhere in the boat. The MC10 system works as a network, allowing RF communications to hop from commander to commander to get back to the iDA-X100M or CDA-9886M. Each extra MC1 remote has a unique RF (radio frequency) ID so that it does not interfere with another adjacent MC10 system.

Boaters who prefer a handheld remote control system may choose the RUE-M1RF Remote Control for Marine Applications. The RUE-M1RF consists of a receiver and remote transmitter with a 100-ft range. The system can handle up to eight extra remotes (RUE-M1EX, sold separately) and the remotes will float in water if dropped.

Specifications, Pricing and Availability
Alpine marine products are available at authorized Alpine dealers. (Note: see attached spec sheet for complete product details, suggested retail indexes and shipping dates.)

Unique iXA-W404 Control Knob and Touch-Screen Interface Mark Automotive First; Provides Improved User Experience

TORRANCE, Calif., Jan. 8, 2009 – Three years ago, Alpine Electronics of America, Inc., unveiled the industry’s first aftermarket head unit designed to deliver a fully integrated iPod® experience in the vehicle. Building on its leadership experience and expertise in the category, the industry-leading manufacturer of automotive mobile media solutions today breaks new ground with the introduction of the iXA-W404, its first 2-DIN touch-screen Digital Media Station.

The iXA-W404 meets the specifications for the “Made for iPod” and “Works with iPhone” compatibility. As a dedicated iPod receiver, it does not have a CD/DVD disc drive; instead, it has an AM/FM tuner and a high-speed USB input for optimal iPod/iPhone connection and pure digital sound from the iPod. Users also can connect USB memory devices and MTP-based MP3 players via the USB input. Any iPod with a 30-PIN dock connector is compatible with the iXA-W404.

“Consumer demand has evolved from simply being able to play digital music in the car to having a complete iPod user experience. With this new iXA-W404 touch-screen and knob control system, consumers can have intuitive control over their iPod or iPhone music,” said Stephen Witt, vice president, marketing, Alpine Electronics.

The iXA-W404 gives users a new way to navigate and access their iPod/iPhone music and video content via their in-dash head unit. The iXA-W404 can be controlled by the double-action encoder knob or through the vibrant 4.3-inch QVGA color touch-screen monitor.

Users can navigate through large music files alphabetically, by Percentage Search or by Page Skip. iPod and iPhone video playback also is fully supported by the iXA-W404. Additionally, consumers can customize the iXA-W404 by selecting one of seven included display widgets, including a clock, calculator and a calendar. Up to four widgets can be viewed on the screen at once.

The iXA-W404 can serve as the base for a complete digital entertainment and navigation system. Entertainment options that can be added to the iXA-W404 include satellite radio and static-free HD Radio™ content with multicasting and iTunes® Tagging support. (Separate tuners, adapters and subscriptions required.) iTunes Tagging makes it easy for consumers to discover new music. Whenever they hear a song they like playing on HD Radio, they can “Tag” the song by pressing and holding the “Enter” button on the iXA-W404. Information about the “Tagged” songs are stored on the iPod/iPhone and presented in a “Tagged” playlist the next time the iPod/iPhone is connected to iTunes. The user can then preview and purchase the songs from iTunes, if desired.

The iXA-W404 also is ready for Bluetooth® (Alpine KCE-400BT Bluetooth Interface Module required, sold separately). With this feature, hands-free phone conversations can be conducted through the car’s sound system, and all phone functions controlled via the iXA-W404. Users can also wirelessly stream audio from AVRCP and A2DP-enabled Bluetooth devices.

Consumers can make the iXA-W404 a touch-screen navigation system by adding the Alpine NVE-P1 Navigation Drive and PMD-DOK2 Docking Station (both sold separately). The NVE-P1 provides preloaded NAVTEQ® map data of the U.S. and Canada, text-to-speech driving instructions and Bluetooth hands-free functionality, among other features. Driver enhancement also can be added with the HCE-C105 back-up camera system (sold separately). To keep the rear-seat passengers entertained, the iXA-W404 can control rear-seat entertainment options such as the PKG-RSE2 DVD Rear Seat Entertainment Package and the PKG-M780 Dual 7-inch Headrest Monitor Package (both sold separately).

The iXA-W404 features three pairs of 2V pre-outs and a built-in 18W RMS x 4 amplifier (at CEA-2006 power ratings) for flexible system-building opportunities. For audiophiles who want to upgrade their system’s sound quality, state-of-the-art Alpine IMPRINT™ audio processing can be had by installing the Alpine PXA-H100 IMPRINT Audio Processor (sold separately). The PXA-H100 automatically tunes and corrects the car’s inherent acoustical problems so that listeners can enjoy better sound, faster, from all of their digital media sources. For an easy power upgrade, the KTP-445 Head Unit Power Pack (sold separately) can be added to the iXA-W404, enhancing the musical experience and providing 45 watts of clean RMS power to each channel.

ALPINE IMPRINT SOUND PROCESSING

ALPINE IMPRINT SOUND PROCESSING

IMPRINT™ sound processing from Alpine Electronics of America, Inc., is a revolutionary approach to getting better sound, faster in any vehicle. The system makes it possible to achieve a rich, enveloping and customized listening experience in the vehicle cabin. IMPRINT automatically overcomes the car’s inherent acoustical challenges in order to deliver unparalleled, highly accurate sound as the artist intended. With IMPRINT, the technical, time-consuming process of sound tuning a vehicle is quicker and easier than ever before.

IMPRINT is achieved by Alpine’s proprietary automotive implementation of Audyssey MultEQ® XT, an automated frequency equalization and time domain adjustment technology that minimizes acoustical distortion, resulting in vastly improved soundstage imaging, tonal balance and clarity. Alpine offers two IMPRINT add-on products – the PXA-H100 Audio Processor for Alpine head units, and the PXE-H650 System Integration Audio Processor for factory OEM applications – and the CDA-9887 CD Receiver with built-in IMPRINT capabilities.
